Welcome to My Honors Portfolio!

Here is a showcase of my past honors experiences, alongside my year in review.

Year in Review

UC x UQAM | Social Innovation for Global Impact

This project is in collaboration with the University of Quebec and Montreal business college. In teams, students explored the social issues imbedded in the local levels of Cincinnati and Montreal. With this information, students used lean startup mapping and user-centered design to develop solutions.

My team focused primarialy on solutions within the medical field in the ER and triage sector of hospitals.

This course included a week-long study tour to Montreal. Here we not only learned about the culture and customs within Montreal, but we also began our ethnographic research in the University of Montreal Hospital Centre (CHUM). Some pictures from Montreal are below :)

Reflection

Before taking this class, I had little knowledge of social innovation. After taking this class, I learned that social innovation could come from almost anything. One of the most pivotal things from this class was learning to improve the “biggest, smallest thing”. In the past my views of social impact were large and pivotal, yet not feasible. Focusing hyper-locally on very specific issues can make impacts quickly.

Learning the concept of “design thinking” within this class reinforced what I was learning in the INTR class, along with opening firsthand experiences within research. Doing field research with Mallika was fun, insightful, and is something that will stay with me as I continue my design career. Learning and applying design research processes is one of the most valuable aspects of the course for me.

Secondly, learning how to work on an international team is a unique experience that I would not have had the chance to see until entering my corporate career. Having the knowledge of not only working virtually but having meaningful work sessions through a screen is a new skill I have begun to hone through this class.

Finally, this class taught me how to lead. Leadership can look many ways, and this class exposed me to multiple forms of leadership, whether it be leading a brainstorm session, helping team members get on the same page, to taking on work that needed to be done. This class is built on the idea that leadership is not just having the best ideas, it is empowering others to create great ideas together, ideas you could have never come up with on your own.
